Enters into a management contract with the Tashi Group
On 23 January 2008, Taj Leisure Hotels, the business unit of Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces will launch Taj Tashi — its new property at Thimphu in Bhutan. The hotel has been developed with an investment of Rs 50 crore.
Taj has entered into a management contract with the Tashi Group to operate the property. The Tashi Group also owns the Druk Group of Hotels in Bhutan. Taj Leisure Hotels had forayed into Malaysia in 2007 and entered into a management contract with Rebak Island Marina Berhad for operating a solitary resort on the privately owned 390 acre Rebak Island.
Kerala-based hospitality group, Floatels India, plans to collaborate with Sri Lanka-based Aitken Spence Hotels, to develop a new resort at Perumbalam Island near Kochi. The property is likely to be ready by 2009.
With an investment of Rs 50 crore, the five star property is spread over 20 acres. It will have 50 island-facing rooms, a conference centre with a capacity of 300 persons, spa, swimming pool and other activities like water sports.
“We are planning to develop five leisure resorts in the next two years,” informs M R Narayanan, Managing Director, Floatels India. Floatels India currently has two five-star resorts in Trivandrum — Poovar Island Resort and Comfort Inn Grand.
