New Year revelry might have ended but celebration continues for hospitality chains in India with cash registers ringing. Hospitality majors such as The Taj, The Leela and the Oberoi raked in good revenues with skyrocketing tariffs and 100% occupancies in Goa, Rajasthan and Kerala.
From the last week of December 2007 ...to the first week of January 2008, the tariffs at these luxury hotels went up to as high as Rs 3.5 lakh per night. Tariffs at these three popular tourist destinations increased by 20-35% compared to the same period in 2006.
However, high tariffs ranging between Rs 30,000 and Rs 3.5 lakh per night did not come in the way of the domestic and international tourists who chose to celebrate Christmas and new year at a luxury villa with a private pool or a royal tent in desert land. Even presidential suites were sold out on New Year eve across all the leisure hotels. High-end resorts such as Kumarakom Lake Resort in Kerala too had the presidential suite booked at Rs 72,000.
