NEWS| Gurgaon pubs can party 24x7

Haryana's new excise policy allows pubs and bars in plush hotels to stay open all night.

The decision was taken at a state cabinet meeting presided over by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

The excise policy for 2008-09 pegs the license fee for pubs and bars in four-star and above hotels at Rs 10 lakh. However, by paying double that, the hotel can keep the bar open 24 hours. Bar timings can be extended by two hours on payment of an additional Rs 5 lakh.

Relief was also provided to the licensees — the system of payment of 80% license fee in eight installments has been revised to nine and the last date for depositing the fee has been pushed back from the 15th of each month to the 20th. Haryana residents, who could keep a maximum of 72 bottles of liquor, can now stock as many as 108 bottles.

NEWS| Encore Hotels bags catering contract for Fortis Hospitals

Encore Hotels Pvt Ltd (EHPL) has recently acquired a three year contract with Fortis Hospital, Mumbai. Investment in the venture is to the tune of Rs 15 to 20 lakh. This step is part of the group's plans to expand in the institutional catering segment.

The present contract is
subject to renewal. "To begin with, we will only operate within the Mumbai network of Fortis Hospitals. However, we are also looking at extending the association to Fortis' other hospitals across India," says Kamlesh Barot, Director, Encore Hotels Pvt Ltd. Catering operations at the Fortis hospital will begin by early April 2008.

NEWS| Sayaji Hotels to hive off restaurant business

Chennai: The Rs 44 crore ($1.1 million) Sayaji Hotels Ltd has decided to hive off its Barbeque Nation restaurant chain for more focussed and accelerated growth, the hotel group's top officials have said.

"As per our plans the restaurant business would require around Rs 250 crore by the end of the financial year 2008-09. We are looking out for private equity to the tune of Rs 50 crore," Sajid Dhanani, managing director of the hotel group, told IANS.

Dhanani, who was here to open the Barbeque Nation restaurant Wednesday, did not specify the timeframe by which the hive-off would happen.

According to him, the restaurant business will have a minimum value of Rs 250 crore.

While that is for the future, opening five Barbeque Nation restaurants till date - two in Bangalore and one each in Mumbai, Gurgaon and Chennai - Sayaji Hotels has plans to grow the business to 100 restaurants by the end of fiscal 2009-10, Dhanani said.

"We will have a pan India presence. We also have enquiries for opening outlets in Singapore, Britain and Dubai," said Prosenjit Roy Choudhury, CEO Barbeque Nation, who was present at the function.
