NEWS| Barbeque Nation opens restaurant in Chandigarh

Barbeque Nation (The world on a grill), a unit of Sayaji Hotels Limited, launched its exclusive restaurant at Chandigarh on 17 March 2008. The company also plans to expand its chain of restaurants in various cities of Punjab, including Ludhiana, Jallandhar and Amritsar.

Mitu Mohanan, Marketing Head, Barbeque Nation says, “We wanted to introduce a new concept of live barbeque in the city. So we have opened our exclusive restaurant with 170 covers and 45 small and big family tables. Each table will offer the customer an unlimited spread of meat and vegetables. Our restaurant is meant for families, who can enjoy live grilled unlimited ten dishes (five vegetarian and five vegetarian), followed by soups and salads”.

Mohanan further confirms that the hotel will celebrate the opening night. It has invited Bollywood actress Pooja Bedi to be its special Chef and she will start the cooking fire. He says, “After Chandigarh, in a span of three months, we are opening our restaurants in Pune, Thane, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. We are also in the process of opening such restaurants in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar in Punjab. However, some legal formalities have to be completed.”

NEWS| Taj SATS to initiate operations in Bengaluru and Goa

Taj SATS Air Catering Ltd, the joint venture of Indian Hotel Company Ltd (IHCL) and Singapore Airport Terminal Services Ltd (SATS), will open flight catering units in Bengaluru and Goa respectively. The Bengaluru unit is scheduled for operations when the Bengaluru International Airport will open on May 11, 2008, while the Goa unit is expected to be operational by April 2008.

After the opening of these units, Taj SATS will have a total of seven flight catering units across India. Commenting on the upcoming projects, Nowzer Dudhmal, Deputy General Manager, Taj SATS Air Catering Ltd says, “Both the new units are installed with state of the art equipment. In terms of automation, we have worked towards developing units which comply with the quality offered by Taj SATS.”

The Bengaluru unit is equipped to provide an output of 12,000-14,000 meals per day, and the Goa unit is expected to churn out 5000 meals on a daily basis. “In the wake of the significant growth which fuels the aviation industry, it is necessary to develop adequate infrastructure for better sustainability. Apart from the metros, tier two and tier three locations like Nagpur, Pune and Ahmedabad have good potential for flight catering business”, says Dudhmal.

JOBS| Intl| Front Office Receptionist

The Position:
Responsible for the provision of a comprehensive Front Office Desk service which includes receiving guests, check in and check out, preparing accounts and billing, process payments and respond/attend to guest general inquires / requirements. Should be well versed on all aspects of the Property Management Systems (PMS) and all aspects of the hotels facilities, services and nearby attractions

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure the highest standard of customer service is provided to guests and visitors, corporate and telephone clients ensuring smooth and seamless check in procedures, issuance of keys/key cards and ensuring the appropriate porter services are provided.
• Respond to queries on room tariffs and charges for services delivered. Perform front office cashiering functions and ensure accurate collection of cash during check-out services and during foreign exchange transactions.
• Be fully conversant with all the front office Property Management Systems; including back of house systems, spa reservations, front office cashiering, reservations systems and other interfaced systems as required.
• Be aware at all times of the hotel occupation status with reference to availability of rooms; including forecasts, group bookings, VIPs, Royalty and any other specific occupancy issues that may arise.
• Ensure all guest information is accurately recorded into the guest register to ensure critically correct guest database and history; this will ensure that all departments have access to correct information at all times enabling them to provide the service levels required by an Emirates Hotel & Resort property.
• Handle and process all guest correspondence, messages or requests as required, either to the guest's rooms or to the relevant department ensuring seamless and effective communication.
• Liaise with all departments within the property in order to ensure seamless services when allocating rooms. Ensure that all rooms that are available have been checked before allocation to an arrival; this will be achieved through correct communication with particularly Housekeeping, Maintenance and F&B.
• Assist in reservations, amendments, cancellations, queries and correspondence with all guests as needed to ensure all systems are up to date and accurate, including forecasts. Ensure that all paperwork, correspondence and information is correctly filed, stored or distributed as necessary and according to front office procedures.
• Actively be involved in suggesting new ideas and providing recommendations on the improvement of the service provided, thereby increasing revenue and ensuring that the property maintains its mark as one of the leading properties.
• Actively enhance the properties earnings by providing options to guests and visitors on other products and services available at the property. Support the Front Office Supervisor in closing the end of day sales and assist in the handover of details to the next shift.
Regularly liaise with the reservations team with regard to future sales forecasts and provide information and feedback which facilitates sales leads and improvements in operational processes and thereby contribute to departmental and corporate objectives.

Salary & Benefits:

Experience and Qualifications:
• Minimum 'O' level with a Diploma n Hospitality Management from a recognised institute with a minimum of 4 years experience of which a minimum of 1 year should have been in a guest services or front of house operation.
• Procedures and systems used in hotel management, with a preference for front-line guest services, people management, and direct operations. Thorough knowledge of Front Office, Reservations and Housekeeping. Preference and knowledge of hotel industry sales and marketing would be an advantage.
• Computer skills are essential.

NEWS| MIM Group forays into boutique hotels and spas

MIM Group, which owns Citizen World Travels Ltd. and Treasure Tours and Travels Pvt. Ltd. is all set to foray into the booming hospitality business by setting up a chain of boutique hotels and spas in the country. A subsidiary company will be established to manage its hospitality operations.

Speaking to TravelBiz Monitor, Iqbal Mulla, Chairman, MIM Group disclosed that, “The group is currently in dialogue with a few international investors based in London and Nairobi for setting up these boutique hotels and spas with an investment of approximately Rs 150 crore.”

As per the slated plans, MIM Group will set up properties at Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Goa, with the hotels’ theme focusing on the culture of the state. Initially, two spas will be set up — one close to Mumbai and the other in Kerala. These properties are expected to be operational by end of 2009. The Group will also consider investing in the land and even developing the properties.
