TRENDS| Organic food market booms

Consumers seek healthier, more natural food and drink options.Nature-loving hippies, open your arms wide.

Latest research from Mintel confirms that, in light of prominent health and food safety concerns, the organic movement has most definitely burst onto the mainstream.

Mintel reports that organic food sales have grown a whopping 132% since 2002, while organic beverage sales nearly doubled (97%) during the same period. Together, the organic food and beverage markets now make up a nearly $6 billion dollar a year industry.

“This isn’t a niche market full of environmental health nuts and affluent yuppies anymore,” says Marcia Mogelonsky, senior research analyst at Mintel. “Organic is now part of the picture for everyone from the Hispanic immigrant mother to the hip suburban teen next door. With health issues and food contamination cases in the news, many people have begun looking for safer, more natural food and drink.”

NEWS| Fort Rajwada to open its second property in November

Fort Rajwada, the largest hotel property of western Rajasthan, will open its second property in Jaisalmer by November 2008. The 151─room property will have presidential suites, super deluxe and deluxe rooms for special guests and dignitaries.

Talking to Hospitality Biz, Vijendra Singh Kumpawat, General Manager – Operations, Fort Rajwada said that the upcoming property will look like a fortress as it has a huge fortress wall around the palace like hotel. "The whole architecture with its canopies and 'chhatries' and the interiors have been designed to offer a touch of 14th century Rajasthani palace," says Kumpawat.

APPOINTED| Grand Hyatt: R Narayan, Director of Marketing, Mumbai

R Narayan has been appointed as the Director of Marketing at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. He joins the hotel after a two year tenure at Park Hyatt Goa Resort & Spa.

His role here will be instrumental in developing, implementing, maximising, monitoring and evaluating the hotel’s marketing strategies, as well as analysing business performance in order to achieve and exceed forecast revenue figures for the entire hotel operations.

NEWS| Fortune Park Hotels launches Nakshatra in Gurgaon

Fortune Park Hotels, the wholly owned subsidiary of ITC Limited, officially launched its new signature Indian fine dining brand of restaurants, 'Nakshatra,' in Gurgaon earlier this week.

The launch of the restaurant in Gurgaon will be followed by the opening of another, Nakshatra at Fortune Select Exotica in Navi Mumbai.

The restaurant plans to serve the best Indian cuisine, developed by creative chefs and pioneered by the masters of the Welcomgroup Cuisine Development Cell.

In the restaurant one can find the three nakshatras, Pushya, Dhanishta and Magha, which represent a connection between the ingredients and health of an individual. The menu features a range of exotic murabbas, chutneys, pickles and the famous tongue─tingling chaats of Delhi. It also includes both, popular Indian sherbets and beverages, which is not usually seen on any other restaurant menus. NEWS| Ramee Hotels to launch its first five─star property in Bengaluru

Ramee Hotels Pvt Ltd is coming up with their first five star property Ramee Grand at Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru, which is scheduled to be operational by November 2010.

The group which presently runs five four star properties under the brand name Ramee Guestline Hotels across India is also launching Ramee Guestline Hotel in Pune and in the suburbs of Mumbai. The amount of investment made on these three properties is around 700 crore.

"We are also looking for properties in Ahmedabad, Goa, Chandigarh, Goa and Mangalore. By 2015 we plan to launch 15 hotels across India. We also plan to launch our five star brand Ramee Grand in major cities. By the first quarter of 2009 we might come up with an IPO for all the upcoming properties," says Sudhanshu Kumar Singh, Director & Group General Manager, Ramee Group of Hotels, Resorts & Apartments.
