Romil Ratra has been appointed as the Senior Vice President at GL Hotels. In his new position, Ratra will be responsible for overseeing the operations for six Mayfair units pan India as well as the group’s flagship hotel property. NEWS| Hampshire Hotels expands in India

As part of its Indian expansion, Hampshire Hotels and Resorts plans to add 2600─2700 upmarket rooms to its inventory in the country. After intense market research, the company will launch its projects, every four to six months.

The company is looking to open the 150 room Hampshire Plaza in Cochin, by end 2008. Jaipur (by 2011), Chennai, Navi Mumbai and Noida are on the cards as well, while the Cochin and Hyderabad properties will see additions. The group is also considering additional properties in tier II cities and metros. By end 2011, Hampshire Hotels and Resorts will have 11 operational projects in India.

PEOPLE| Honey Thakur joins DDHI is General Manager – Human Resources

With the scheduled opening of its first property in Jaipur in October 2008 Dawnay , Day Hotels India has further strenghened its core team with the appointment of Honey Thakur as General Manager – Human Resources.

Announcing the appointment , Mandeep Lamba , Managing Dierector , DDHI said, “ Honey joins us at an important phase of our growth. The hospitality industry has for some time now faced a severe crunch in trained manpower and we plan to put a lot of emphasis on training and development”. Honey would be spearheading the human resources requirements of Dawnay, Day Hotels and the immediate focus will be on the establishments of the HR policies systems and talent acquisition’ , he added.

With a Bachelors Degree in Engineering - Computers, Honey went on to do a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing and PR and followed it up with a Diploma in HR Management. She brings with her over fifteen years of experience in Human Resource Management both in India and overseas.

NEWS| Dawnay Day Hotels India launches TEN HOTELS brand

Dawnay Day Hotels India (DDHI) has formally launched its brand, TEN HOTELS by Dawnay Day, in New Delhi. Currently, DDHI has three properties under construction at Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Pune. Construction at several other sites will begin soon.

The first hotel, 'TEN JAIPUR: A Dawnay Day Hotel' is scheduled to open in November 2008, followed by Pune and Ahmedabad in 2009. Speaking at the launch, Mandeep S Lamba, Managing Director, Dawnay, Day Hotels India says, “Today is indeed an important milestone for us as we embark on our journey to build a valuable hospitality brand in India. Building a brand is serious business in today's highly competitive global environment, but we were certain that we wanted an independent identity for our hotels to clearly differentiate them and acquire a leadership position in the Indian four star hotel segment.”

NEWS| Barista Coffee expands in India and abroad

As part of a domestic and international expansion plan, Barista Coffee plans to open 80 new outlets in India. The outlets will see and investment of Rs 30─35 crore in FY08─09. The number of outlets in India will rise to 300, with the new additions. The company will launch 20 new outlets in cities/towns with no earlier presence.

The company also plans to launch two outlets in Bangladesh. In the F&B sector, the company follows three types of models — corporate and company─owned stores and high street outlets. The company will add ten exclusive outlets to the existing 11. The three tier pricing strategy will be based on the outlet's location. Although, business is said to have bettered since the Luigi Lavazza Spa takeover, the company will shut down ten stores this year. Three per cent of company sales came from merchandising.
