NEWS| Hotels bar non-residents' cars

Following the attack in a Mumbai five-star hotel and the following terror threats, prominent star hotels in the Capital have stepped up
security and are reportedly not allowing parking for vehicles of non-residents in their premises. As a result, the cars are being parked on main roads. The traffic police, on Monday, directed all five-star hotels to check such unauthorised parking.

As security has been intensified and hotels have deployed private guards to carry out intensive checks in vehicles, the cops got reports that they were being selective about the vehicles being parked inside their boundary walls. "There were reports that only cars of those staying at the hotels, along with some selected regular guests are being allowed to park inside. The rest, which are being turned away, are parked on the main road outside, leading to jams in some places,'' said an official.

NEWS| Fire in Taj hotel, no casualty

A fire broke out between the 20th and 21st floor of the Taj Hotel's new building in south Mumbai early on Tuesday.

Fire officials said the building, one of the sites of the November 26 terror attacks, was empty when the incident happened. There are no casualty reports in the incident and though the cause of the fire is still unknown, unofficial sources attributed it to faulty wiring.

The operation to put out the fire is still on, the officials added.

FnB| food allergies

from IHT | Researchers put a microscope on food allergies...some interesting statistics

In China, for example, skin-prick testing found that large percentages of one rural population were sensitive to shellfish (16.7 percent) and peanuts (12.3 percent). Yet actual food allergies in that population, as diagnosed by physicians, were all but unheard of: less than 1 percent.

In the United States, by contrast, 12 million people (4 percent of the population) suffer from food allergies, according to the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network, a nonprofit information and advocacy group.

Does anyone know the stats for Indians?

What safety/precautionary/medical steps do you take at your hotel/outlet to manage food allergies?

Does your hotel/restaurant train staff on managing such emergencies?

Here is another side to the allergy story.
from sundaytimes| That’s no food allergy, just bad manners
It claims a lot of people just claim allergies when there arent any!

Do you know anyone?
