PRS Oberoi, chairman of the Oberoi chain of hotels is currently in the midst of a massive cost-cutting and restructuring exercise which has prompted him to shut his sales offices in New York, London, Singapore and Dubai. Sources said that now all queries from these markets will be handled out of the groups centralised reservation system in New Delhi. Company executives told UTVi that due to the massive downturn in these markets the overall sales contribution to the company's topline dipped from 25-30% in 2007 to 10-15% in 2008. Also the acute recession that has gripped the hospitality sector has also taken its toll on the company's bottomline as in the third quarter ended December 2008 the company reported a substantial drop in standalone net profit by 35%.
