TECH| Trends| Brilliant! | Fairmont Says, Kids – R U Ready?

Editor | can a hotel engage a guest. the best in the world do. Infact the best service organizations engage rather than just serve. The new initiative from Fairmont is brilliant in two ways, One it is instructional & scientific and second it engages > leading to loyalty.

Anybody talking about health & well-being will get attention. Creating a program that can be customized and then continued or utilized even after the hotel stay is over is commendable.

I think this is brilliant. The execution is not what I am talking about here, haven't seen it working, but the premise and the thought is worth applauding.

In its continued quest to offer guests opportunities to integrate health and wellness into their travels, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is pleased to introduce RU Ready?, an innovative, interactive fitness program for our younger guests aged 7–17 which fuses a kid’s contemporary world of computers, video games and interactive web communication together with outdoor play.

Available seasonally at select resort properties, RU Ready?, a partnership with Trick It Out Sports, offers a fun fitness challenge designed to improve kids’ athletic skills for baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse, skateboarding, snowboarding, soccer and more.

The curriculum combines the use of playing cards and a web-based experience to provide instructional and competitive participatory skill challenges. Kids are trained in the development of seven essential fundamental fitness skills (agility, balance, coordination, flexibility, speed, strength and stamina) by doing “tricks” similar to skateboarding and snowboarding. The kids are asked to perform drills of specific tricks that sharpen their skills in different ways, then compete against others or against their own scores of previous sessions. Kids will also receive a special RU Ready? adidas t-shirt to take home.

E-mail updates and customized web pages allow participants to engage and continue their training after they return home. They can compete virtually against other kids or just test their own progress, incorporating online media with outdoor fun.

TRENDS| Customers asked to sign waivers after food poisoning deaths

EDITOR | This was coming. It should have been in place for a long time now, but you will see more of such measures being taken to safe guard hotel interests. Share your opinion on when you think this will become mandatory in India?

Diners who take away meals in “doggy bags” are being asked by restaurants and hotels to sign waivers saying the businesses will not be responsible for the quality of the food once it is off the premises.

story continues below>>

The Sheraton hotel, on Abu Dhabi’s Corniche, has even imposed a ban on food being taken out to avoid any risk of it going off in the summer heat.

The move comes after food poisoning was cited in the recent deaths of four children. Spoiled food was blamed for the deaths of Nathan and Chelsea D’Souza, aged five and eight, who died in Dubai in June after becoming ill following a takeaway meal from a Chinese restaurant.

Also in June, the death of Marwa Faisal, a four-year-old from Sharjah, was attributed to food poisoning, as was the death of two-year-old Rishad Pranav in Dubai last month.

The Kempinski group, which runs a hotel and restaurants in the Mall of the Emirates, is requiring customers to sign waivers that they will not hold the restaurants responsible for the consequences of eating food that they take away.
