NEWS| Clarks Inn Group signs management contract for new hotel in Ghaziabad

Clarks Inn Group of Hotels has signed a management contract in New Delhi for their 17th hotel project. The hotel is going to be set up in Ghaziabad. The hospitality project, which is a part of the 360 acres of real estate development, underway on NH-24, in the name of Crossings Republik, will be the first project of the Joint Venture (JV) company — PAV Realty Pvt Ltd — floated by Paramount Group and Ajnara Farms & Services

NEWS| India Hospitality Corp. Management Assumes Full Control

ndia Hospitality Corp. is pleased to announce that it has assumed direct operating control of its Indian subsidiaries, after the disengagement of the operating agreements between IHC's operating companies, Mars Restaurants Private Limited and SkyGourmet Private Limited and Mars Catering Services Private Limited , a company controlled by Sanjay Narang, as of 31 July 2009.

Mr Sanjay Narang and Mr Arvind Ghei have now ceased to act as President and Chief Financial Officer of the Operating Companies, respectively, following the disengagement of the Agreements. Mr Narang will be appointed the honorary non-executive chairman of Sky Gourmet, the airline catering business, for a period of 2 years for the purpose of providing a smooth transition and business continuity.

IHC, via its subsidiary MRPL, has also entered into a licence agreement with Mr Narang whereby it has allowed the continued use of the Gordon House brand for the Hotel Sahar, Mumbai

IHC has subsequently entered into an arrangement with Mr Narang whereby IHC will franchise the aforementioned restaurant brands to Mr Narang for a period of 1 year for a franchise fee in the initial three month period.

PEOPLE| Restaurateur Anjan Chatterjee's big plans

Chatterjee has 52 restaurants (spread across eight brands including Mainland China, Sigree and Oh! Calcutta) across 11 cities including three abroad — Beijing, London and Dhaka. Now he wants to spread to tier-II towns and in some ways be a pan-Indian fine-dining restaurant chain.

Chatterjee’s company Speciality Restaurants Pvt Ltd (SRPL) and SAIF Partners (Softbank Asia Infrastructure Fund), an investor in SRPL, are busy scripting the new plan. They are looking at a listing on the stock market next year.

SAIF Partners backs Chatterjee’s aggressive strategy. It had bought a 20 per cent stake in SRPL for Rs 90 crore in December 2007 valuing the business at Rs 450 crore.

Under the new hotel classification system in France, the Marriott Hotel Champs Elysees and Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel are two of the first hotels in Paris to achieve the new five-star luxury designation.

The hotels received the designation last week after a lengthy French Ministry of Tourism audit consisting of 240 criteria related to guest expectations of comfort and hygiene, as well as new aspects such as hotel services, sustainable development and new technologies.

NEWS| California Pizza Kitchen to expand into India

California Pizza Kitchen Inc (CPKI.O: Quote, Profile, Research), a casual dining chain with 252 restaurants, said it plans to open its first restaurant in India in the summer of 2010, after signing franchise agreements with two partners.

The Los Angeles-based chain, known for unconventional menu items such as Thai Chicken pizza, said on Wednesday it expects to open a minimum of 15 restaurants in India over the next decade.

It said its partners are JSM Corporation Pvt Ltd, a Mumbai-based group that franchises the Hard Rock Cafe across India, and Daud Arabian Trading, a unit of Oman's Daud Group.

US-based fast food restaurants brands operator Yum! Restaurants is planning to introduce its Mexican speciality chain Taco Bell in India with the first restaurant planned to start in Bangalore in October.

“The first Taco Bell restaurant will be opened in Bangalore sometime in October. It will offer the latest Mexican delights customised for the tastes of the Indian consumers,” Yum Restaurants India Managing Director (Indian Subcontinent) Niren Chaudhary said.

NEWS| Hotels to be disabled friendly by Commonwealth Games

In an effort to keep abreast with international norms, hotels in India will adopt changes to become disabled friendly by next year, the tourism ministry said here Wednesday.

“The ministry has tried to address major concerns to make the classification norms of hotels friendlier for the differently abled persons by adopting the international best practices,” said the ministry in a statement issued here.

“Existing and new hotels of all categories all over the country would now have to comply with the requirements for the differently abled persons in respect of accessibility, special rooms with bathrooms and facilities etc. in the public area by September 1, 2010,” it added.
