NEWS| Choice Hotels International Opens 62 In July

Choice Hotels International Inc. continues to grow with the announcement of 62 newly-opened franchised properties during the month of July.

The openings include hotels in 26 states and 5 countries, adding more than 5,000 rooms to the company’s existing 475,000-plus rooms.

NEWS| PEOPLE| New president for Raffles Hotels & Resorts

Raffles Hotels & Resorts has announced the appointment of John Johnston as president, Raffles Hotels & Resorts, with effect from 10 August, 2009.

Johnston has been working with parent company Fairmont Raffles Hotels International (FRHI) since 1998, most recently heading up the development of FRHI in the Middle East.

NEWS| Hyatt files for IPO, intends to raise up to $1.15 bn

Global hospitality company Hyatt Hotels today said it plans to raise up to $1.15 billion through an initial public offer and would use part of the proceeds to acquire and invest in new properties.

"We intend to use the net proceeds from this offering for working capital and other general corporate purposes. We may also use a portion of the net proceeds to acquire or invest in new properties or other businesses that complement our business," Hyatt said in a filing.

As of June 30, 2009, its worldwide portfolio consisted of 413 Hyatt-branded properties (with 1,19,509 rooms and units) in 45 countries.

For the year ended December 31, 2008, Hyatt's revenues totaled $3.8 billion, while net income totaled $168 million.

Revenues for the first six months of 2009 totaled $1.6 billion. Its net loss for the January-June 2009 period stood at $36 million and it had a total debt of $612 million for the period.

NEWS| Intl| Jumeirah Group To Manage Agile Resort In Hainan

Agile Property Holdings Limited, a leading Chinese property developer, has announced that it had reached an agreement with Jumeirah Group, a Dubai-based luxury hospitality company, for the management of Jumeirah Qing Shui Bay Resort in Hainan province.

This will be Jumeirah's first beach resort in mainland China.

Qing Shui Bay (Clearwater Bay) is to the south of Sanya and is a 40-minute drive from downtown Sanya and Sanya Airport. The resort covers an area of 210,000 square meters with a total floor area of 60,000 square meters, and has 250 guest rooms and 50 luxury villas. Guests will have access to Clearwater Bay's 12-kilometer beach of pure white sand, six restaurants and cafes, a waterfront conference center, and Talise, Jumeirah's signature spa.


NEWS| Olive to introduce new concept in Delhi

After experimenting with the Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine restaurants, Olive Bar & Kitchen will introduce global cuisine at its new restaurant, which is presently under development in New Delhi.

The company won the bid in 2008 to develop the restaurant in Hotel Samrat, located near Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The restaurant, bar and lounge concept known as Lap has incurred an investment of over USD one million. It has been developed by AD Singh, Managing Partner, Olive Bar & Kitchen and actor Arjun Rampal. The restaurant will start its operations in September 2009. The restaurant will house 100 covers with around 70 covers more in the alfresco area. Like other restaurants operated by Olive Bar & Kitchen, Lap will target high-end clienteles.
