NEWS| Le Meridien Mumbai observes highest e-bookings among Starwood APAC hotels

With a change in the hotel booking patterns of the tech-savvy clientele, Le Royal Meridien Mumbai has seen a significant increase in its online sales.

The hotel observed the highest bookings through Internet medium among all Starwood branded hotels located in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. With regards to the same, Le Royal Meridien Mumbai has received the Regional Wired Sales Winner 2008-09 Award from the hotel chain.

An Australian by birth, Chef Damien brings with him more than 15 years of professional experience in the culinary field having worked in many prominent 5-star hotels across Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and Middle East.

Prior to his present position, Chef Damien was the Executive Sous Chef of JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.

NEWS| Swine flu empties Pune's hotels

Up to 50% of the rooms vacant as travellers quit city.

With both leisure and business travellers dropping Pune from their itineraries, 30 to 50 per cent of all grades of rooms in the city are vacant.

This steep fall comes as double whammy for these hotels, since they were forced to pare tariffs 35 to 40 per cent owing to falling occupancies as a result of the economic slowdown.

Pune has been declared the epicentre of the H1N1 (swine flu) pandemic. About 15 people have died so far in the city, with more than 60 new cases out of the 350 swine flu cases here detected in the last two days alone.

The city has a handful of five-star hotels such as the Taj Blue Diamond, Le Meridien, Royal Orchid, Sun-n-Sand, Hotel Gordon House and Courtyard by Marriott, which opened in June. Most hotels here fall under the four-star and economy segment.

NEW HOTELS| Marriott Manila to open this month.

Marriott Hotel Manila is scheduled to open in late August 2009 inside Newport City, a new fully integrated resort city located across Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in the Philippines.

With a panoramic view of the Villamor Golf Club, the hotel is expected to feature 342 guestrooms and four food and beverage outlets, as well as venues for business conferences, symposiums, social events and weddings.

Mr. Nicholas Tse is no stranger to many hoteliers in Hong Kong as he previously worked at the JW Marriott Hotel back in the 90s. Born and raised in United Kingdom, Tse is a graduate from Les Roches Hotel Management School of Switzerland. His hospitality career started in 1990 when he joined the Hong Kong JW Marriott Hotel as Senior Front Desk Officer. He then developed his career in sales direction and was Assistant Director of Sales in 1999 prior to his overseas appointments.

NEW HOTELS| Two luxury hotels to be welcomed in Doha by year-end

Two of the five luxury hotels designed to be linked to Doha’s City Center are scheduled to open by the end of the year.

The five luxury hotels, include the two Marriott hotels — the Marriott Courtyard and the Renaissance Hotel — the Doha Shangri-La, the Doha Rotana Hotel and a new Merweb.

The 257-room Renaissance Hotel and the 204-room Marriott Courtyard are scheduled to open by the end of the year.

The Rotana Hotel and the Doha Shangri-La, which will be managed by the Faisal Bin Oassim Al Thani & Sons Holding Company are scheduled to open next year.

The 272- guest room Doha Shangri-La hotel will feature wireless LAN and high-speed Internet access, 42 serviced apartments and a variety of restaurants including a lobby lounge: Leyla, a piano bar; Sridan, a Middle-Eastern food souq; a Latin American restaurant called Fuego and a Chinese sea food restaurant, Xi’an.

The recreation facilities will include Shangri-La’s signature spa, CHI, The Spa at Sha…

NEWS| Coffee Day to venture into Middle East

Coffee Day Holdings (CDH), which owns the country's largest chain of coffee bars, will be venturing into China and Middle East for the first time after opening outlets in Vienna and Karachi. Disclosing this to reporters on the sidelines of a function here today, CDH Chairman V G Siddhartha said the company, having chain of 1,000 coffee bars would spend Rs 150 crore during the next one year for expansion within the country and outside.
