InterContinental Hotels & Resorts' website, www.intercontinental.com, has been awarded the highest honour by the 2009 Interactive Media Awards, winning the Best in Class Award for the Hotel/Resort category.





With an overall score of 480 out of a maximum possible score of 500, InterContinental.com beat off competition from 113 other hotel and resort entries from around the world, to achieve high marks in each of the judging criteria.

NEWS| Hotel Aditya Park in Hyderabad moves out of Carlson branding

The 88-room Hotel Aditya Park in Hyderabad, managed by Sarovar Hotels Pvt Ltd, recently moved out of Carlson branding.




The owners of the property, which was earlier branded as Hotel Aditya Park Inn, franchised under the Park Inn brand of Carlson hotels, has decided to go ahead with the domestic hotel chain’s management, while withdrawing from the international brand.

NEW HOTELS| Sarovar Hotels to open Muse Sarovar Portico at Nehru Place, New Delhi

Sarovar Hotels has signed a management cum franchise contract with ‘The Muse’, a boutique hotel at Nehru Place, New Delhi.




The 41-room hotel will be re-branded as The Muse Sarovar Portico and will be Sarovar’s 11th property in the capital and the National Capital Region (NCR). The boutique hotel is slated to commence operations under Sarovar’s management and brand by December this year.

The Muse Sarovar Portico is located at Chirag Enclave in Nehru Place and is in close proximity to the commercial district of South Delhi. The property is located 14 kms from the domestic airport, 21kms from the Indira Gandhi International Airport and 12 kms from New Delhi Railway Station.

It will add to Sarovar’s present portfolio in Delhi including upcoming hotels like Green Park, Shahdara, Hari Nagar (Janakpuri), Vaishali (Ghaziabad), Gurgaon and Faridabad and three operational hotels in Gurgaon and Noida. Sarovar’s room inventory in Delhi and NCR would total to 776 before the scheduled Commonwealth…

FINANCE| Hyatt Hotels IPO: 38 million shares at $25 each

Hyatt Hotels Corp., the hotel chain controlled by Chicago's Pritzker family, sold 38 million shares in an initial public offering at $25 each, at the higher end of its forecast range.






The operator of 413 Hyatt-brand hotels raised about $950 million, according to Bloomberg data.

The total doesn't include the additional shares the underwriters may purchase. The stock will begin trading Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker H.

Hyatt sought $23 to $26 a share, an Oct. 30 regulatory filing showed.

NEW HOTELS| Aloft Abu Dhabi opens

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide and its new destination sensation brand, Aloft Hotels, have announced the opening of Aloft Abu Dhabi, the first Aloft hotel to open in the Middle East and the only hotel in the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec).





The 408-room hotel is linked directly to the Adnec, and features the soon-to-open Re:lax@12 rooftop bar, Mai Restaurant and Bar and Dine Restaurant.

INTL| IBIS opening new hotels

Two new IBIS hotels have been launched in Belfast today.





Northern Ireland Tourism Minister, Arlene Foster, welcomed the chain to the city this morning as it unveiled its first hotel in King Street.

A second hotel will open in the Queen's Quarter in the city in the coming weeks.

Advertisement50 jobs have been created following the £12 million investment by the IBIS chain.

NEWS| IHC to raise Rs 1,000 cr for expansion

London-listed hospitality and leisure company India Hospitality Corporation (IHC) will set up a new hotel in Bangalore next year, and is close to raising funds worth Rs 1,000 crore for expansion of its hotel business.







"In the next 12-18 months, we will be focusing on expanding our hotel business in tier II cities. We will be opening a new hotel in Bangalore by July 2010," IHC Managing Director Ravi Deol said.

The company is also readying a Rs 1,000-crore property fund for expanding its hotel business in the country. The firm has already invested Rs 200 crore in the hotel business through its wholly-owned subsidiary Gordon House Estates.

NEWS| Ras Resorts, Silvassa to add 60 rooms by December 2010

Ras Resorts in Silvassa, the capital of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, plans to add 60 rooms to its existing room inventory of 100 rooms, by end of December 2010.




The four-star hotel is the only property in Silvassa, which is government approved. Spread across 8.5 acres on the banks of river Daman Ganga, another five acres have been acquired to set up additional rooms. Presently, the resort has three categories of rooms (deluxe, executive and suites), a coffee shop ‘Bistro’ and a lounge bar ‘Banyan Tree.’ Plans are afoot to open another coffee shop with 75 covers, which will be operational by December this year.
