KNOW | Lighting control can reduce operating costs while enhancing the customer experience

Buzzfire has seen a reduction of 6% to as high as 38% in monthly electrical utility costs by utilizing lighting control technology. Buzzfire has been utilizing lighting control for over three years with restaurants and bars. The good news is that lighting control can be retrofitted into an established business.

Lighting control is the control of both electrical and natural light. Traditional restaurants have a wall full of dimmers with markers indicating the light levels that they use for different scenes. As evening progresses the lights are abruptly changed in the restaurant or not changed at all. Lighting control can make this change automatic and gradual. For instance when the light level is scheduled to change, it is changed over a five minute period without disruption to the customers.

Lighting control can also sense ambient light and automatically reduce lighting near windows on a sunny day to have a uniform lighting level throughout your venue.

With natural lighting control …

HOTELS: Generally speaking, what is the outlook for 2010?
Marr: "Before I look ahead, let me begin with a quick overview of Starwood’s current business outlook.
