Banyan Tree eyes desert tourism

Dubai Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts intends to put desert tourism on the global map with Banyan Tree Al Wadi, its new resort and spa in Ras Al Khaimah.

"We are familiar with beach and mountain resorts. More hotels need to enter desert tourism for it to become a particular kind of tourism in its own right... just like jungle or rainforest tourism popularised in Central America," Ho Kwon Ping, executive chairman of Banyan Tree Holdings, said.

Accor opens its 400th hotel in Asia Pacific - Mercure Beijing Downtown

The Mercure Beijing Downtown joins a network of 670 Mercure hotels in nearly 50 countries and is one of the worlds largest brand networks. The hotel is the 99th Mercure in Asia Pacific and will be joined by additional Mercure hotels in Lavasa and Hyderabad in India during 2010. The hotel is the second Mercure hotel in China’s capital.

Carlson Hotels to open first property in Brunei

Carlson Hotels will mark its entry into Brunei with the opening of the 142-room Radisson Hotel Brunei Darussalam. This conversion from Sheraton Utama Brunei Darussalam to the upscale, full-service Radisson® brand will be effective as of May 1, 2010.
