Restaurants in Pune give food safety ratings by FSSAI a miss

The Food Safety and Standard Authority of India's (FSSAI) initiative to accredit food establishments in Pune has found no takers, since not a single eating joint in the city has responded to the attempt. The FSSAI had handed over the accreditation process to the Quality Council of India (QCI), directing it to decide the norms and accordingly, accredit restaurants, eateries and dhabas across the country.

STR reports US hotel performance for April 2010

The U.S. hotel industry posted mixed results in the three key performance measurements during April 2010, according to data from STR.

In year-over-year measurements, the industry's occupancy was up 4.7 percent to 58.4 percent. Average daily rate dropped 1.2 percent to finish the month at US$97.72. Revenue per available room for the month increased 3.5 percent to finish at US$57.06.
"The hotel industry's collective performance in April displayed a continued march back to prosperity," said Mark Lomanno, president of STR.

Hyatt Place Announces First Hotel in Latin America

Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) and Immobiliare Real Estate Development, a Panamanian real estate company, announced today that a Hyatt subsidiary and Immobiliare have signed an agreement to develop the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Panama and the first Hyatt Place hotel in Latin America. Slated to open in early 2012, the 167-room Hyatt Place Panama City will be located in the heart of Panama City’s financial district on Aquilino de la Guardia Avenue between 50th Street and Via Espana.

STR Global Reports Asia/Pacific Hotel Pipeline for April 2010

Among the countries in the region, China accounted for more than 50 percent of the total active pipeline, reporting 133,062 rooms. The country also reported the most rooms in the In Construction phase with 96,431 rooms. India reported 45,583 rooms in the total active pipeline, followed by Thailand (16,018 rooms) and Vietnam (11,084 rooms).
