Hospitality Biz Reporter bags FHRAI’s Young Hospitality Journalist Award

Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) during its 45th Annual Convention, held recently at Jaypee Palace Hotel & Convention Centre Agra, conferred 19 people from the hospitality industry for their excellence in their respective sphere of work. Rashmi Pradhan, Senior Reporter, Hospitality Biz (Travel Division) was conferred the ‘Young Hospitality Journalist Award’ for the year 2009-2010.

Both Hospitality Biz and Pradhan bagged the award for the second consecutive year since the inception of the print and online platforms of the magazine in December 2007.

Zuri Group Global to launch first property in Sikkim under management contract model

Zuri Group Global will launch its first property in Sikkim, under the management contract model on October 1, 2010. According to the company release, the hotel to be known as The Retreat by Zuri, Baiguney, Sikkim, will be Zuri’s first adventure sports destination resort to offer options like paragliding, river rafting, river camping, mountain camping, jungle hiking, village trekking, all under one roof and under expert supervision.

The Retreat by Zuri, Baiguney, Sikkim will be a 21-key resort with single, double rooms and suites with an average size of 250 square feet each and aims to expand to over 50-keys spread across stand-alone cottages and independent suites, as well as its signature Spa-brand ‘MAYA’.

Kamat Hotel India Ltd opens VITS Hotel Delhi NCR

Kamat Hotel India Ltd has launched a five-star hotel VITS Hotel Delhi NCR. The hotel which will cater to both business and leisure travellers has 151 guest rooms and suites. The hotel has a health club, business centre, meeting rooms and travel desk. The business centre is equipped with photocopying services, fax, scanning and high-speed Internet access, plus four meeting rooms, which can accommodate six to 18 people. The hotel has a Wellness Club and spa.

Wyndham Worldwide acquires ResortQuest vacation rentals company

Wyndham Worldwide’s Exchange & Rentals division has agreed to acquire ResortQuest, a provider of full-service vacation rentals in the United States.

The acquisition price is approximately US$56 million, and the all-cash transaction is expected to close by the end of the third quarter. With the acquisition, Wyndham becomes the world’s largest full-service vacation rental business, providing access to more than 85,000 vacation properties in approximately 100 countries.

ResortQuest will provide a strong platform for the company’s expansion into the U.S. serviced vacation rentals market, Wyndham says.

Travelodge boosts Ireland room sales with YouTube ad campaign

The UK-based budget hotel chain Travelodge Ltd. has found success boosting its brand recognition in neighboring Ireland with a coordinated YouTube advertising campaign.

The company hired online marketing firm Dublinscope to improve its online ad impressions, particularly among UK travelers visiting Ireland. Travelodge was initially skeptical about the value of YouTube, but after reviewing the metrics of a test campaign on the video sharing network, the company became convinced of its promise.

Using YouTube-integrated products like Google AdWords and Google Analytics, Travelodge saw consumer web searches for its properties skyrocket, and room nights booked online similarly jumped, the company says.

“We now regard YouTube as a ‘cost-saving channel,’” Seamus McGowan, managing director of Travelodge Ireland, tells HotelMarketing.com.
