Hilton signs another DoubleTree development deal in Romania


Hilton Worldwide has signed its third franchise deal in Romania, a conversion agreement with property owner SC Valdor SRL for DoubleTree by Hilton Ploiesti. The DoubleTree flag will debut later this year following refurbishment and extensive upgrades.

Global average booked rates on par with 2004 prices

Last year’s global hotel price increase was the first time that the average booked rate on discount online travel agency Hotels.com rose year-on-year since 2007. However, prices fell so low during 2009 after a 13% drop that despite last year’s modest increase, the average price of a room worldwide is still the same now as it was in 2004.

China bans smoking in hotels, restaurants

The China government has forbidden smoking in all hotels and restaurants, along with most other indoor public spaces, effective May 1. The national ban was announced by the state Health Ministry.
