These three questions were very much at the core of The EyeforTravel North American Innovation Award, held as part of TDS North America just over a week ago in Las Vegas. Job Description:
Ensure food philosophy is maintained with a standardized product.
Maintain cost effectiveness by maintaining profitability in all areas.
Constantly evaluate systems to facilitate improvement where ever possible.
Ensure HACCP procedures are followed and clear records are kept at all times.
Ensure the highest standard in preparation of food production and delivery.
Oversee the stock take and stock rotation for the assigned section.
Monitor the operation to ensure that food wastage is minimized.
Monitor the presentation of food to ensure it complies with company standards and guidelines as per prescribed recipe’s.
Record all recipes and update the manual as required to ensure the Kitchen has comprehensive information at all times.
Oversee all front of house food set ups to ensure they are as per guidelines set by the management.

Taj Hotels wins Business Traveller award

Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces has been voted the Best Business Hotel Chain in India in the Business Traveller Awards 2011. This is the third year in a row that the hotel group has won this award.

Amul to open 10 quick service restaurants in India this fiscal

Looking to expand its footprint in the domestic market, Asia’s largest milk brand Amul said that it shall be opening ten quick service restaurants (QSRs) across the country by the end of this fiscal. “We are opening two Amul QSRs, one each in Ahmedabad and Bengaluru. The target is to open 10 such outlets by the end of this fiscal year,” said RS Sodhi, Managing Director, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF).

“Two federation run Amul QSRs are already operating in Ahmedabad offering a wide range of delectables like sandwiches, dosa, burgers, pav bhaji. They also house a cafe selling our wide range of dairy products. But all the new QSRs to be opened shall be on franchisee model now. The investment of franchisee shall be between Rs 15-20 lakh on one outlet and Amul shall be taking care of branding, marketing and providing them with technical know how,” he said.

Shangri-La Asia to Open 400-room New-Build Shangri-La Hotel, Jinan in Eastern China

Shangri-La Asia Limited announces today that it will open a Shangri-La hotel in 2015 in Jinan, capital of Shandong Province in eastern China. The 400-room hotel, to be operated by Shangri-La Hotels and Resort, will complement the company's existing property in the province, Shangri-La Hotel, Qingdao, and Shangri-La Hotel, Qufu, scheduled to open at the end of 2012, and further strengthen its leading position in the region.

Shangri-La Hotel, Jinan will be located on Luoyuan Street in Lixia District, the city's commercial, business and political centre. Right facing the Spring City Square, the hotel will be near the provincial governments and the International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Within 45-minute drive from the international airport, the hotel is also close to the city's key tourist attractions, including Baotu Spring, Daming Lake and Thousand Buddha Mountain.

Shangri-La has named Hong Kong-based Wong Tung International Limited as architect, and Hirsch Bedner Associates will undertake the interior design for guestrooms and the public area. The hotel's 400 guestrooms will range in sizes from 45 square metres for a standard room to 225 square metres for a suite.

A Horizon Club, Shangri-La's exclusive retreat for discerning travellers, will be available to offer a host of special amenities and privileges, including a 360-square-metre lounge for daily breakfast and cocktails, meeting rooms, and express check-in and check-out services.

The hotel will offer several restaurants and bars, including an all-day restaurant, speciality restaurant, Chinese restaurant, lobby lounge, bar and wine retail shop. Meeting and banqueting facilities will include a 1,900-square-metre Grand Ballroom, several function rooms, a Government VIP Room and a Bridal Room. Additional facilities will include an extensive health club, spa, indoor swimming pool, beauty salon and business centre.
