The hotel business center is not what it used to be. Gone are the days of the big separate room, often windowless, with a line of computers and printers. Instead, hotels across the price spectrum are increasingly shrinking their business centers or transforming them from quiet work spaces to lounge and meeting areas.

NEWS | First Courtyard by Marriott Opens in Siberia

Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) has opened its first hotel in Siberia, the 208-room Courtyard by Marriott Irkutsk City Center. Centrally located within walking distance of the Kirov Square, Angara River and the historic Drama Theatre, the hotel is perfectly situated to explore the sights of Eastern Siberia. Irkutsk, located along the Trans-Siberian Railway, is also 70km in distance from the UNESCO world heritage site of Lake Baikal – the world’s largest fresh water lake.

NEWS | Marriott International Announces its 100th Hotel in China

Marriott International is further cementing its position as a leader in the hospitality sector in China with the signing of its 100th hotel – the 345-room JW Marriott Hotel Shenyang. Marriott International, which currently operates 56 hotels in China representing The Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Renaissance, Courtyard and Marriott Executive Apartments brands, has a pipeline of confirmed projects totaling 44 hotels across it brand portfolio.

NEWS | Residence Inn by Marriott Debuts in the United Kingdom

Marriott International, Inc. has opened the first Residence Inn branded property in the United Kingdom, the 107-room Residence Inn Edinburgh. The hotel, operated by Marriott International under a management agreement with Gladedale Ventures Limited, is centrally located in the Scottish capital’s new Quartermile development, the city’s most exciting new address.

New Novotel prototype room unveiled

Accor, Courcouronnes, France, is offering a new prototype guestroom for its midscale Novotel brand featuring cutting-edge motion-sensing technology hardware.Called Room 3120, its now available for guests at Novotel Vaugirard Montparnass. The guestroom features a minimalist interior coupled with a large, flatscreen HDTV and Xbox 360 game console and Kinect sensor, which allows users to interact with the console without a controller. It also has a Sensorit digital mirror, which allows guests to check news content on the screen without touch or a controller. NEWS | Shangri-La Hotel, Yingkou to Open in 2015

Shangri-La Asia Limited announced today the development of a new hotel in Yingkou, a coastal city located in the north-western portion of the Liaodong Peninsula in Liaoning Province, China. The new hotel will open in 2015 and join the group’s growing portfolio of north-eastern China properties in Changchun, Dalian, Harbin and Shenyang bringing the total number of hotels in the region to eight in the next few years.

DoubleTree by Hilton has announced the conversion and official opening of the 465-room DoubleTree by Hilton Pittsburgh-Green Tree in Pittsburgh, Pa., now the largest Pittsburgh-area hotel currently available to travelers within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio.
