NEWS |SIHRA seeks tax concessions on cooked food in Puducherry

South India Hotels and Restaurants Association (SIHRA), last week appealed to Puducherry government to review the ten per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) imposed on cooked food in the union territory, saying it has affected the hospitality industry in the region. The introduction of ten per cent VAT on cooked food in January this year has led to a considerable fall in flow of tourists hitting the hotel sector, according to T Natarajan, Hon Secretary, SIHRA,
according to a PTI report. He sought tax concessions to the hotels and restaurants and a separate legislation to protect the hotel sector. The association also want road, rail and air connectivity to Puducherry from different pockets to attract tourists.
