The Sahara Group, fresh after a string of acquisitions of marquee hotel properties in the UK and the US, is in talks with US-based Oasis West Realty to pick up a controlling stake in Beverly Hilton hotel, a landmark Los Angeles property that has been hosting the Golden Globe Awards. The owner of Oasis, Beny Alagem, had approached Sahara to sell 55% stake in the iconic hotel for about $340 million ( 1,900 crore), a person with knowledge of the development said. Sahara group Chairman Subrata Roy confirmed that his group was in talks.
Hotels.com in its latest survey revealed that Japanese food is the third favourite culinary delight of global travellers. The survey, which questioned more than 27,000 travellers, has shown that there is now tough competition for more traditional favourites such as Italian and French cuisine from food from the Far East. Tea planter Rossell India Limited will be launching its own brand of Quick Service Restaurants (QSR), called the 'Kebab Xpress', by this September, through its new division Rossell Hospitality. It plans to set-up a chain of fast food restaurants, focusing primarily on Kebabs and Kathi Rolls. The first three outlets will be opened in Delhi, according to a report by Zee News. Hindware Home Retail Private Ltd. (HHRPL), a fully-owned subsidiary of Hindware, has plans expand its Mega Home Store brand, EVOK, to more cities in India in coming years. EVOK, which has recently opened its 17th outlet in Kirti Nagar in Delhi, has plans to open seven to eight EVOK stores each year in metro and Tier I cities especially in the south and western region of the country. This was informed by DK Jairath, CEO, HHRPL at the announcement of the new outlet in New Delhi last week. He also said that the company would look at expanding its footprint in the Eastern India from the next financial year. The company which has started with an investment outlay of Rs 250 crores in 2008, is expected to achieve a turnover of Rs 400 crore by 2014-15.
DLF Hotel Holdings Ltd is getting close to sealing a deal for the sale of Aman Resorts to a joint party of a USA private equity company and China-based HNA Group, for approximately USD 450 million. "The company has finally agreed to sell Aman Resorts and the deal is expected to be closed by the end of this month," a source was quoted as saying in a report by Business Today. The deal is part of DLF's plan to raise Rs 7,500 crore by March 2013 through the sale of non-core assets to reduce its huge debt burden, which has risen to Rs 22,860 crore.
