NEWS | US-based Pollo Tropical forays into India

Pollo Tropical, a US-based, Caribbean-inspired fast-casual restaurant chain, has opened its first restaurant in India and its 33rd franchise location globally. This marks the brand’s first opening outside the Western hemisphere. India’s first Pollo Tropical is located in Delhi. The restaurant is the first of a 10-restaurant development agreement between Pollo Tropical and Delhi-based Paramount Cuisines Pvt. Ltd. Paramount Cuisines will open at least 10 Pollo Tropical locations in the NCR, Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana by 2016. “Bringing the flavour of Pollo Tropical to the people of India has been a dream come true for our whole team,” said Manjit Singh Saini, CEO, Paramount.

Existing investor TVS Capital, which owns about 80% of the company, will continue to remain invested. It is spearheading the capital raise, but will not be participating in this round. Om Pizzas and Eats, the Indian franchisee of international pizza chain Papa John's, is in talks with investors to raise around $25 million (about 142 crore) in equity funding, said a person with direct knowledge of the discussions. "TVS had invested in Om Pizzas and Eats from its first fund, which is now fully exhausted.

NEWS | Subdued business expected from EIH and India Hotels

In the quarter to March, East India Hotels reported a 40% dip in net profits to Rs 27 crore year-on-year. Net sales grew 6% to Rs 342 crore YoY for the quarter.Premium hotel companies are expected to do subdued business over the next two quarters, given the tepid growth in the arrival of foreign tourists, oversupply of rooms in the industry and sluggish global operations. In the last one year, foreign tourist arrivals have grown at just close to 2.8% compared with a year ago. For premium hotel companies such as Indian Hotels and East India Hotels, or EIH, revenues from foreign tourists contribute 71% to their total revenues. This is reflected in the low revenue growth of Indian Hotels and East India Hotels, respectively.
