Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has signed an agreement with Jabal Omar Development Company to open three new hotels in the Holy City of Makkah. As part of the Jabal Omar Development project, Starwood will add 1,496 rooms to the city under the company’s Sheraton, Westin and Four Points by Sheraton brands when the hotels open in 2015.

Hotel networking site Travelguru.com has announced the launch of TGConnect, a new Extranet API for hotel partners and channel managers for exchanging hotel rates and inventory. The company said that the introduction of this new API will not only save a lot of time, but will also reduce the errors and efforts bore to update the extranet manually. Federation of Hotel Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) has urged the Central Government to provide with comprehensive relief package to the hospitality and tourism players operating in Uttarakhand affected in the natural calamity in the state. "FHRAI makes an urgent appeal to the Union Government and financial institutions to formulate a comprehensive relief package for the state’s hospitality and tourism industry, in the form of loan waivers, tax exemptions and subsidies etc.
Dr K Chiranjeevi, Minister of State with Independent Charge for Tourism, Government of India, today sanctioned a special financial package of Rs 100 crore for restoration and reconstruction of the floods-affected government tourist facilities in Uttarakhand. The assistance comes as a relief to the tourism and hospitality industry of the state which is battered by the floods. This package will be rolled out in addition to the Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of about Rs 95 crore sanctioned during the current financial year (2013-14) for developing tourism infrastructure in the state.
Jindal HotelsBSE -4.97 % today said it has entered into an agreement with global hospitality major Accor to strengthen its marketing network. As an integral part of business strategy and brand development, the company has entered into a management and marketing agreement with Accor group of Hotels to increase the company's business prospects and strengthen marketing network, Jindal Hotels said in a filing to BSE. The domestic hospitality firm, however, did not give any financial details of the pact.
Adamo Hospitality today said it is looking to invest Rs 800 crore to set up 10 wholly owned hotels in next five years as part of its expansion plans in the country. "We plan to invest Rs 800 crore to set up 10 hotels in the four star category in next five years. All the hotels will be wholly owned and managed by us," Adamo Hospitality Director Harsh Ajmera told reporters. This will add around 650 new rooms to our already existing room strength of 240, he added.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) continues to grow its presence in the UK with the signing of three new hotels – Holiday Inn Huntingdon - Racecourse in Cambridgeshire, Holiday Inn Glasgow Green in Scotland and Holiday Inn - Watford Junction in Hertfordshire. The first of the three to open will be Holiday Inn Huntingdon - Racecourse, a 98-room new build due to open its doors in quarter three of 2013. The hotel will operate under a franchise agreement with HP Hotels Limited who also own Holiday Inn Express Nuneaton. In 2014, a franchise agreement with nine Hospitality LTD will see Holiday Inn - Watford Junction open, followed by the opening of Holiday Inn Glasgow Green under franchise with VDL Management LTD.
