Millennium & Copthorne has expanded its portfolio of hotels in China with the opening of the M Hotel Chengdu, the first M Hotel outside Singapore after the brand was launched in Singapore in 2000. The 196-room M Hotel Chengdu is M&C’s latest venture in China. The hotel is 13-minute drive from Shuangliu International Airport and a five-minute stroll from Xin Nan Tian Di, an area south of Chengdu with high-end housing, luxurious villas and shopping malls. The metro is also nearby and the Chengdu High Tech Zone Park is a short ten-minute drive away with many Fortune 500 companies located within. Marriott Hotels has unveiled plans to rollout mobile check-in at 325 hotels in the United States and Canada. Already launched at 31 Marriott-brand hotels, mobile check-in will expand to all 325 Marriott-brand hotels later this summer. According to the consulting firm Hudson Crossing, emerging Gen Y travellers in the US lead all other age groups in smartphone ownership at 80 per cent and travellers in general are more likely to own mobile devices. InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), recently opened Crowne Plaza Charlotte Executive Park. Formerly a Marriott hotel, the property will undergo a significant multi-million dollar renovation funded by MAM-Charlotte Hotel, LLC. With upgrades to all guest rooms and common areas, the hotel will offer an enhanced guest experience to travelers in the Charlotte area. The hotel has 297 guestrooms, including three junior suites. The 18-storey hotel offers business travellers access to various corporate offices and nearby attractions.
InterContinental Osaka has now opened in the centre of Japan’s latest commercial development, Grand Front Osaka. The mixed-use development is a new landmark in the city which also includes office buildings, commercial outlets, a convention centre, academic and entertainment facilities and residences. InterContinental Osaka offers stunning panoramic views of the city and the surrounding area of western Japan, starting from the hotel’s lobby which sits on the 20th floor. The hotel has a total of 215 guest rooms, averaging more than 50 square metres each, while the InterContinental Residences located in the same building has a further 57 serviced and fully-furnished residential suites. As well as one and two-bedroom suites, the InterContinental Residences also offer three-bedrooms suites, which are the largest available in the city.
Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has issued around 2,000 showcause notices to industries and hotels till tomorrow for operating without consent under the Water Act and Air Act, according to a TOI report. As per the GSPCB statistics, there are over 2,300 industrial units and over 2,500 hotels operating without consent under Water Act and Air Act. The GSPCB's move is based on the directions of the central pollution control board. The Comptroller and Auditor General ( CAG) of India had pointed out that hotels and industrial units were operating without water and air consent of the GSPCB, thereby causing a loss to the state exchequer.
