NEWS | Sarovar Hotels' The Premiere, Nairobi to open in 2015

Sarovar Hotels & Resorts has announced signing of The Premiere, Nairobi in Kenya, thus strengthening its foothold in Africa. The upscale hotel will be the group’s third property in Africa after New Africa in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania and The Heron Portico in Nairobi, a release stated. NEWS | Chef Jens Jakob to showcase French cuisine at Hilton Shillim Estate Retreat and Spa

NEWS | IHG launches Holiday Inn Express brand in Singapore

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened the first-ever Holiday Inn Express in Singapore on Orchard Road. The 221-room hotel is the first of two Holiday Inn Express hotels planned for the country as part of the brand’s rapid expansion across South East Asia, a release stated. Holiday Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road offers Wi-Fi throughout the property, Free Express Start breakfast bar, and a self-service business centre and laundry room, among other facilities. The hotel is offering a special opening rate starting at SGD 198 per night, for stays until November 30, 2013.

NEWS | Chef Richard Ekkebus receives SVH-certified Master Chef title

richard_ekkebus.jpgRichard Ekkebus, Culinary Director, The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, who oversees the hotel’s two-Michelin star Amber restaurant, has been honoured as the Stichting Vakbekwaamheid Horeca (SVH) certified Master Chef—the highest level of professional recognition in the Dutch hospitality industry—for accomplishing his exams in-flight. 

The Master Chef title was judged in two ways. Firstly, through the successful accomplishment of the first-class in-flight menu of KLM Airways, which included some of Chef Ekkebus’s signature dishes, including white asparagus with lobster served with an orange, carrot and mustard dressing, and a dish of Dutch fillet of sole stuffed with North Sea crab served with a cauliflower confit and Opperdoes potatoes, a release stated. The second part of the exam took place in Amber where the Chef was assessed on more than 100 aspects of his craft.
