Popular nightclub raided for drugs

KOCHI: Partygoers were shocked to find themselves in the middle of a major police operation when cops searched a popular nightclub in the city for drugs on Saturday.

This is the first time the city police had cracked down on a nightclub to check for narcotic drugs. Fifty officers stormed into the nightclub at Dream Hotel around 10.50pm looking for illegal drugs. Every person at the nightclub was searched. There were 90 to 100 of them, including women. Police seized 7 grams of ganja lying unattended in the hotel and have registered a case under Section 21 of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

They are trying to trace the person who brought the drugs. Further, on Sunday, Kadavanthra police issued a notice to the hotel asking it not to allow visitors to use narcotic drugs inside the hotel premises, or else face action. "We raided the hotel following a tip-off that many visitors are using narcotic drugs at the nightclub parties. We found ganja wrapped in a newspaper lying unattended in the hotel. We will continue the raids in other hotels where night parties are conducted," said DCP R Nishanthini. Sources said the ganja was found in the garden on the hotel premises.
