Roots Corporation to add 100 Ginger Hotels in 5 years

Roots Corporation, which operates the budget hotel brand Ginger, has announced its plan to add as many as 100 properties in the next 3-4 years with 6-7 hotels planned for this fiscal itself.

The hospitality group will be exploring opportunities to operate either by entering into management contract or through franchise model with family-owned properties in Tier I cities. P K Mohankumar, CEO & MD, Roots Corporation, told DNA that Ginger would consider greenfield, leased rentals and shell conversion options to fuel its expansion drive.

Ginger currently has 27 owned and managed properties and three hotels under management contracts. Mohankumar pointed at the growing demand for branded economy and budget hotels among Indian travelers. He said that the segment requires 50,000 rooms whereas only 8,000 branded rooms are currently available. Out of these 8,000 rooms, Ginger Hotels own around 3,000 rooms.
