Starwood Capital Group announced on Tuesday that it bought through a controlled affiliate De Vere Venues from De Vere Group for approximately US$385 million.

Worldhotels names new CEO

Global consortium Worldhotels announced Tuesday that Kristin Intress joined the company as its new chief executive officer on March 3. Robert Hornman, current CEO, will stay with the company until July 2014, assisting with the transition.

Morgans eliminates third of corporate staff

The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Morgans Hotel Group, New York City,
has eliminated a third of its corporate staff as a cost-saving measure, according to people close to the company.

The layoffs reportedly included over 20 employees, including executives. The company has been in tumult recently, with its board of directors ousted and CEO Michael Gross resigning in the past year. The company has failed to turn a profit since May 2011. - See more at:

Hospitality industry gets boost with opening of Tulip Inn Hotel

Ghana's competitive hospitality industry has been given a boost with the start of the ultramodern Tulip Inn Hotel, which poised to provide first class service to clients.

Formerly known as the Travel Xpress International Hotel, Tulip Inn Accra Hotel is located at 4 Centenary Close, off Adamafio Crescent, South Legon opposite Gulf House and adjacent the Royal Bank Head Office.

A new Broad Street hotel will open March 21.
Developer T.R. Reddy got approval Tuesday to open the Holiday Inn Express at 444 Broad St. after the hotel’s franchise company, IHG, toured the 70,000-square-foot building. It stands on the site of several previous hotels near Gordon Highway.
