Hyatt Enlists Disruptor Sal Khan To Revolutionize Hospitality Industry Training, Plug 'Skills Gap'

Sal Khan and his Khan Academy, already a disruptive force bringing open-source learning to students worldwide (not to mention a hero of my school-age kids), and Hyatt Hotels, the longstanding, growing group of hospitality industry brands, today announced a multi-year partnership to bring learning to Hyatt colleagues and communities around the world.

In this partnership with Khan Academy, Hyatt will deliver both hospitality training and what they call “fundamental life skills” to anyone, anywhere, with the hope that this will be of value to a variety of constituencies: •Hyatt employees, their families, and the communities in which they live • Potential/future Hyatt employees, and anyone else in the community who can benefit from this instruction. (The hospitality industry–currently on a rapid growth trajectory after the dark days of the Great Recession– requires a huge pipeline of future employees, and Hyatt pledges here, in collaboration with Khan, to provide anyone who may have a future interest in working at Hyatt with “specially developed life skills and hospitality training,” at no cost and with no obligation).

“The training isn’t just for people interested in working at Hyatt,” a spokesperson tells me. “It’s for anyone who wants to learn more about the industry and potentially have a career in hospitality.”
